^ some of our group, there are 31 of us altogether in Shangahi
from left the right:
DK, me, Mary, Demar, DK, DK, Jon, Harry, Harvey, DK, Hatty, DK, Phillip, Ben
so ive still got a few names to learn. Most people are doing a finance / economics degree but there is one girl doing environmental health and another doing green biotechnology.

So the flight itself was ok but i don't think i will be using KLM again, i had 2 seperate flights with 2 seperate sets of stewardesses and ALL of them we're either rediculously clumsy or just didn't give a shit if they rammed into you every time the walked past. But apart from that it was fine. Was sat next to two ladies who were an editor and assistant for an accessories magazine, on their way to give a speech at a uni and visit some factories. They had some really good movies and i got to see Silver Linings Playbook which was good so Elliott -at least i dont need to nagyou about seeing it at the cinema anymore!

My roomate, Lisa was already here when i arrived, and she seems nice enough but most importantly - she doesn't snore! We went out and had sweet & sour chicken for dinner last night and then fell asleep by 8pm.
This morning we had an 'opening ceremony' which wasnt really anything more than an introduction to the staff and then we we're split into our chinese lesson groups. For some reason i had been put in the 'advanced' group and although i can speak a few phrases, the teacher didn't speak any english and was writing in chinese characters on the board so i think i need to move down a group for tomorrow.

We then went into shangahi centre using the trains which run about 30 meters above ground rather than underground. We walked down to the front where you get the view of the Bund - the tall tower with the round bit and then went to find a restaurant.

I think im doing well so far, ive only spent 40 yen (about £4) and that has got me an umbrella and 2 meals. It was absolutely pouring down when we arrived.

Tomorrow we have more language in the morning and then lectures in the afternoon and evening but im not sure what they are about.

Its busy, but not as bust as i thought it would be. We just had that sweet and sour chicken and then i've been eating the food i brought with me mainly.
I went to the market this morning to buy some strawberries for my porridge and i thought i asked for 10 but he gave me 10 Yen's (£1) worth which was 60! so its strawberries for lunch too!
How did richard do on his test?

Watch out those strawberries don't upset your tum
Richard passed his test with 3 minors, your dad sulking now as he now has to give the cb1 back, he's been getting the MZ sorted so he can use t for work
Try the chinese pears, they are so expensive over here, soo sweet when they are slightly squidgy.

Say well done to richard for me, we got the same amount i think
I already had an upset tum before the strawberries, think it must have been the tofu noodles from the canteen. i just had rice with butternut squash today. I washed the strawberries in boiling water. They have a lot more flavour than british ones.
I'll keep a lookout for pears. The other girls have gone to the fake market this afternoon but i don't want to spend any money. What size bonsai pot did you want? Theres someone selling plants down the road. Haven't seen any figures as of yet but will keep looking.
